On October 6th, 2022, in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Grace Kennedy Money Services Limited (GKMS Ltd.) – home of Western Union and Bill Express – donated $250,000 dollars to the Guyana Cancer Foundation.
Over the years the Breast Cancer foundation has been conducting Breast Cancer Awareness activities through several initiatives, particularly around facilitating sessions geared towards informing/teaching women how to conduct Breast ‘Self Examination’ in the comfort of their own home. The Guyana Cancer Foundation program continues to provide free access to screening services including mammograms, sonogram scans and radiation therapy for ‘high risk’ women including the medically underserved and uninsured women.
GKMS believes that such interventions will motivate more women to take action to fight this disease and create the opportunity for them to seek early medical care Troy Williams, GKMS Country Manager, alluded to the fact that research has shown that every year, breast cancer kills more than 500,000 women around the world, and awareness is one way that the company can help to lessen the numbers of deaths. ”As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, GKMS continues to partner with the Guyana Cancer Foundation in raising breast cancer awareness across the nation. We strongly believe that the initiatives executed by the Foundation significantly aides towards helping to ensure access to screening and support is available to those who need it the most. Our contribution this year therefore aligns with this vision and allows for yet another opportunity for our company to give back to community.”
Ms. Bibi Sadeeah Akhtar Hassan, President of the Guyana Cancer Foundation, expressed her gratitude for GKMS’s contribution “This will primarily go towards our screening program with Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital from as early as next week. Moreover, this initiative started on Tuesday with the First Lady, Mrs. Arya Ali …. GKMS’s contribution is the second donation towards this initiative. I therefore express heartfelt thanks to GraceKennedy, we appreciate you coming on board with us once again. Thank you very much.” stated Ms. Hassan.
Throughout the year GKMS has been making meaningful contributions to various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and remains committed to partnering with organizations and contributing to ongoing community initiatives in areas where it can positively impact citizens.
We therefore join with the individuals, businesses, and communities that come together every October to show our support for the many people affected by breast cancer as this is a time to reflect and give back.
